Monitor Calibration 

 

 

These simply steps will help you get a good rendering of the astronomical images on this site.

1.  Adjust your monitor's CONTRAST control to near maximum.

2.  The 100% black rectangle below contains a 95% gray square. Adjust your monitor's BRIGHTNESS control so that  the central square is just visible above the black background.

 
 

3.  Now you should be able to see the difference between each square in the grayscale below and ideally in the color scales as well. Remember that our eyes are most sensitive in the green, so the dark reds and especially the dark blues will be harder to resolve.
